(62) Simple Sauteed Apples

I love cooked apples like you get at Cracker Barrel (yum!) but I wanted a version that wasn’t quite so syrupy sweet. I served these next to some stronger flavors and they were PERFECT. Dinner was kielbasa, haluska, and these apples. I want to talk more about that haluska later on, too, but for now, enjoy this easy peasy apple recipe!

Simple Sauteed Apples

Source: Adapted from a Gourmet recipe
Yield: 2 cups

3 tablespoons butter
4 large Granny Smith apples (about 2 1/4 pounds), peeled, cored, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
2 tablespoons golden brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Cook butter in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until beginning to brown. Add apples and sauté until tender, about 9 minutes. Add all remaining ingredients; stir to blend. Cool. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and chill.)
